Landlord Provided Fireproof Doors to Compactor Room

LVT Number: 6913

The DOB issued a violation notice to landlord for not providing self-closing fireproof doors to the building's compactor rooms. The notice stated that there were no material and equipment acceptance (MEA) labels on the doors, and directed landlord to correct the problem by providing self-closing fireproof doors. Landlord showed that the doors had always been fireproof and self-closing. Landlord also submitted a reinspection report showing that MEA labels were now on the doors. The ALJ dismissed the violation notice, and the DOB appealed.

The ECB found that the notice of violation merely stated that there were no MEA labels; this didn't by itself violate the Building Code. The ALJ's order was affirmed.
