Tenant's Guest Slipped on Doorway Mat

LVT Number: 14283

Tenant's guest sued landlord for negligence. She slipped and fell on a mat placed by tenant outside her apartment door. The guest claimed that landlord had polished the floor too much, making it slippery, and that landlord shouldn't have let tenant leave a mat on the slippery floor. Landlord asked the court to dismiss the case without a trial. The court ruled for landlord. There was no proof that landlord had negligently applied the floor polish. And landlord didn't control tenant's placement of the mat outside her door.
