Tenant Claims Electrical Power Reduced

LVT Number: 17317

Tenant complained of a reduction in services based on a reduction in electrical power to her apartment. The DRA ruled against tenant. Tenant appealed and lost. Landlord claimed that a change in electrical power was required to correct a DOB violation and to ensure building safety. Landlord's electrical contractor stated in a letter that the power reduction was needed to avoid a serious fire hazard. The DHCR can't make landlord provide a service if it would violate a law or cause a dangerous situation in the building.

The DHCR advised tenant to seek help from DOB.
