Live-In Lover Can't Get Pass-On Rights

LVT Number: 12451

Landlord sued to evict roommate after rent-stabilized tenant died. Roommate claimed she was tenant's lover and so was entitled to pass-on rights. The court ruled for landlord, and roommate appealed. The appeals court ruled that roommate couldn't get the apartment. Roommate presented no documentary proof to support her claim that she had a 10-year relationship with tenant and that they lived together as a family unit. In addition, the acquaintances who testified on roommate's behalf weren't convincing.
