Landlord Not Required to Offer Renewal Lease to Prior Tenant's Subtenant

LVT Number: 17683

Subtenant of prior tenant complained that landlord didn't offer him a renewal lease. After prior tenant's lease expired, landlord had offered subtenant a vacancy lease. Subtenant claimed that landlord had continued to collect rent from him for ten months after prior tenant moved out and after prior tenant's lease expired. The DRA ruled against subtenant. Subtenant appealed and lost. After prior tenant moved out, subtenant became a month-to-month holdover tenant. Landlord could have sought eviction.
