Trial Required on Tenant's Discrimination Complaint

LVT Number: 8952

Tenant and subtenant sued landlord, claiming that landlord refused to renew their lease because of subtenant's race. Landlord asked the court to dismiss the case. Landlord claimed it didn't renew tenant's lease because its policy prohibited subletting for more than two years out of any four-year period. The court refused to dismiss the case. Landlord must prove at trial that it had a nondiscriminatory reason for not renewing tenant's lease.
