Occupant Can Request Documents from Landlord

Landlord sued to evict apartment occupant after rent-controlled tenant died. Occupant claimed pass-on rights to the apartment. He sent subpoenas to landlord and certain officers of the management company, seeking documents and trial testimony. Landlord claimed that occupant's request was overbroad, irrelevant, and intentionally harassing. The court ruled against landlord. Occupant properly asked for documents from landlord's corporate president and other employees, all of whom may have information about the case.
