Landlord in Criminal Contempt of Order

HPD sued landlord for criminal contempt of a consent order to make building repairs. Landlord had not attempted to correct numerous violations, many of them hazardous. Landlord knew of the court order and offered no defense for not making repairs. Landlord also didn't appear in court for the contempt proceedings. The court ruled for HPD, sentenced landlord to 30 days in jail, and fined him $1,000.
