Former Tenants Owe Landlord $5,000 for Damage to Apartment

LVT Number: 19647

Landlord sued former tenants for unpaid rent plus the costs of cleaning, repairing damage, and replacing fixtures after tenants moved out of the apartment. The court ruled for landlord and awarded him $5,000. Tenants appealed. They denied they did any damage and claimed that the building wasn't properly registered as a multiple dwelling. The appeals court ruled against tenants. Tenants admitted they paid no rent for the last six months they lived in the apartment and didn't prove there was no proper MDR registration. Landlord otherwise proved the damages claimed.
