Estate Sues Landlord for Refusing to Rent to Disabled Tenant

Tenant’s mother sued landlord for discrimination under New York State and City laws after tenant died. She said that landlord refused to rent to tenant based on disability and source of income. Tenant had AIDS and received public assistance. Landlord asked the court to dismiss the case. The court ruled for landlord in part. Tenant’s mother was entitled to sue landlord as the administrator of tenant’s estate and raised a sufficient claim of housing discrimination to proceed.
