Building Bought at Judicial Sale

Landlord sued to evict tenant for nonpayment of rent. Landlord had purchased the building in a foreclosure sale. The prior owner had overcharged tenant. Tenant claimed that landlord was responsible for the overcharge. The court found that, under the rent stabilization code, landlord wasn't responsible for prior owner's overcharge. There was no relationship between landlord and prior owner except that landlord was prior owner's mortgagee.
