Tenant's Request for Documents Too Broad

LVT Number: 13279

Landlord sued to evict tenant for nonpayment of rent. Tenant sent a subpoena seeking production at trial of certain documents. Landlord objected to tenant's subpoena. The court ruled for landlord, finding that tenant's document request was too broad. Tenant appealed and lost. Tenant sought documents dating back to 1982 that weren't clearly relevant to the case or which weren't documents that were otherwise permitted to be produced at a trial. Landlord's objection to tenant's subpoena was also on time and landlord didn't give up its right to object.
