Tenants Removed Light Fixtures

LVT Number: #26656

Former tenants sued landlord for return of a portion of their security deposit withheld after they moved out. Landlord returned $800 but kept $1000, claiming that tenants had removed lighting fixtures. The court ruled for tenants in small part, ordering a $56 refund for reimbursement of electric stove and other cleaning charges. Otherwise, landlord was entitled to keep funds deducted for unpaid water and sewer bill, new lighting fixtures needed to replace ones that tenants removed, and new electrical switches and wall plates.
