Tenant Must Pay Back Rent of $40,000

LVT Number: 14337

Landlord sued to evict tenant for rent owed between September 1996 and May 2000. Tenant argued that landlord's claim for rent was stale and should be dismissed. Landlord stated that it had made many oral demands for the back rent owed and had often agreed to give tenant more time to pay. The court ruled for landlord. There was no reason for tenant to think that landlord had waived any rights under tenant's lease or the law. Also, tenant didn't show that it was harmed by landlord's delay.
