Tenant Group Gets Attorney's Fees from NYCHA

LVT Number: 19398

Tenant group sued NYCHA in a class action challenging lease succession practices in three Brooklyn housing developments. The case was started in 1976 and settled in 2002. Under the agreement, NYCHA would follow certain procedures for evaluating and approving lease succession right applications. Tenant group then asked for $51,650 in attorney's fees for monitoring the settlement. The court ruled for tenants in part. Tenants were entitled to attorney's fees in the amount of $25,000. Their attorneys spent too much time on parts of the case and made repeated, uncalled-for objections.
