Tenant Can't Vacate Settlement Agreement

LVT Number: 15788

Landlord sued to evict tenant. Landlord and tenant signed a settlement agreement in court after tenant fired his attorney. Tenant later asked the court to vacate the settlement agreement. Tenant claimed that landlord's use of the building as an eight-unit rooming house violated the Certificate of Occupancy. The court ruled against tenant. The building's use as a rooming house didn't bar the court from hearing the case. And tenant couldn't claim that he signed the settlement agreement without the benefit of having an attorney when tenant chose to go forward without his attorney.
