Tenant Can't Add Son's Name to Renewal Lease

LVT Number: #22346

Rent-stabilized tenant complained of an improper renewal lease. She claimed that landlord wouldn’t add her son’s name to her renewal lease, despite her request. The DRA ruled against tenant and advised her to sign and return the offered renewal lease to landlord. Tenant appealed. She claimed that landlord now asked her to sign a renewal lease commencing Aug. 1, 2009. She had signed the renewal that was to commence on July 1, 2008, and selected a two-year lease term. The DHCR dismissed tenant’s PAR.

The DHCR dismissed tenant’s PAR. Since the events tenant complained about in her PAR occurred after the DRA issued its order and were the subject of a second lease violation complaint tenant filed under a later docket number, the DHCR couldn't address that complaint here.
