NYCHA Must Pay $8,500 in Back Rent Owed by Section 8 Tenant

LVT Number: 14658

Landlord sued NYCHA for nonpayment of tenant's rent. NYCHA was the administrator of a federal Section 8 program and had cosigned tenant's lease. NYCHA claimed that its representative, who signed the lease, wasn't authorized to do so. The court ruled for landlord. NYCHA's representative had cosigned other leases in the past, and NYCHA didn't explain how its representative didn't have the authority to do so this time. Also, NYCHA's representative didn't appear at the trial. NYCHA was ordered to pay landlord $8,500 in back rent.
