No One at Building Had Certificate to Inspect and Test Fire Alarm System

LVT Number: #26788

The Fire Department issued a violation notice to landlord for failing to provide a certificate of fitness (CF) for supervision of the building’s fire alarm, standpipe, and sprinkler systems. Landlord’s witness testified that he had worked at the building for nine years and didn’t know that it had failed to meet a requirement. The ALJ ruled against landlord and fined it $750. Landlord appealed and lost. Fire Code Section 901.6.3 requires a person holding a CF to supervise the inspection, testing, and servicing of a building’s fire alarm system.
