Loft Building with Fewer Than Six Units Subject to Rent Stabilization

LVT Number: 12443

The New York City Loft Board determined that landlord's building was an interim multiple dwelling subject to rent stabilization. Landlord appealed, arguing that the building contained fewer than six units and so shouldn't be subject to rent stabilization. The court and appeals court ruled against landlord. A legalized loft building with fewer than six units was subject to rent stabilization. Landlord was required to offer tenants rent-stabilized leases and to register the building with the DHCR.
