Landlord Not Responsible for Attack by Tenant's Dog

LVT Number: 19676

A woman sued tenant, and tenant's landlord, after she was attacked by tenant's pit bull dog. Landlord claimed that it wasn't responsible for the attack and asked the court to dismiss the case against him. The court ruled for landlord. There was no proof that landlord had any knowledge that either of tenant's two dogs was vicious. It addition, the woman admitted in pretrial questioning that the attack occurred while she was walking in a nearby park. Since the attack didn't occur on landlord's property, landlord couldn't be held responsible.
