Landlord Not Liable for Slip-and-Fall on Doormat

LVT Number: 17730

Tenant sued her neighbor and landlord after she slipped and fell on the neighbor's doormat. Landlord claimed that it wasn't responsible for tenant's injuries and asked the court to dismiss the case against it. The court ruled for landlord. The placement of the doormat outside the apartment door didn't create a dangerous condition in and of itself. And landlord had no notice that the doormat was slippery. But tenant could pursue the case against the neighbor.
