Landlord Needn't Give Tenant Copies of Documents from Prior Case

LVT Number: 8235

Landlord sued to evict tenant, apparently for chronic nonpayment of rent. Tenant demanded that landlord provide him with copies of all papers from the 12 prior cases that landlord cited in his termination notice and petition. The court found that this was unreasonable and overly burdensome on landlord. Since tenant was a party to the prior cases, he had his own records to rely on. The originals were also public records, available from the court clerk's office.
