Landlord Must Continue to Offer Tenant Renewal Lease for Maid's Room

LVT Number: 15099

Rent-stabilized tenant complained that landlord refused to renew her ancillary lease for a maid's room in her building. Tenant had rented the maid's room as storage space for 17 years under one-year leases at rent guidelines renewal increases. The DRA ruled against tenant, finding that the maid's room wasn't a housing accommodation subject to stabilization. Tenant appealed and won. The maid's room was an ancillary service provided to tenant and was subject to rent stabilization under the Rent Stabilization Code. So landlord must offer tenant a renewal lease for the maid's room.
