Landlord Fined Reduced Penalty Showing Correction of Violation

LVT Number: #30382

The Fire Department issued violation notices to landlord for failing to maintain a self-closing door to a building's boiler room. Landlord also failed to produce records documenting annual service of the building's fire extinguisher. At a hearing, landlord showed that the violations had been corrected. The ALJ ruled for landlord in part by imposing mitigated penalties totaling $800. Landlord appealed and lost. Landlord sought zero penalty. But landlord didn't show proof that the FDNY issued a certificate of compliance before the compliance date listed in the violations.
