Landlord Didn't Register Apartment with HPD

LVT Number: 11889

Landlord sued to evict tenant for nonpayment of rent. The court ruled against landlord, and landlord appealed. The appeals court again ruled against landlord. The building was a multiple dwelling, and landlord didn't comply with HPD registration requirements. So landlord couldn't recover the rent even though tenant may have been occupying a ''legal'' apartment under a certificate of occupancy.
