Landlord Can't Evict Nonregulated Tenant Before Lease Ends

LVT Number: 11129

New landlord sued to evict tenant. Tenant wasn't subject to rent control or rent stabilization, and landlord claimed that he was a month-to-month tenant. Tenant claimed he had a lease from prior landlord that didn't end until 1999. The court ruled against landlord. Tenant's lease with prior landlord was valid. The fact that prior landlord had died didn't end the lease. New landlord can't evict tenant until the lease ends.
