Attorney Fined for Falsely Notarizing Affidavit

LVT Number: 12868

Landlord sued to evict tenant. At some point landlord submitted an affidavit stating what repairs had been made to tenant's apartment. It was brought to the court's attention that landlord's signature was false and the court held a hearing. Landlord's attorney had notarized the affidavit without actually observing landlord sign the document. Landlord's attorney admitted that this was his normal office practice. The court fined landlord's attorney $1,000 in sanctions for frivolous conduct based on his falsely notarizing the affidavit.
